A List of Treasures from Notte Bianca

Things I miss about the US (a smattering)
1. Public restrooms that aren’t vile 2. Not being yelled at for not having exact change at the grocery store 3. Stores being open on Sundays 4. Vegetables 5. Walking down the street without being scrutinized by old men 6. Women wear bras out of the house 7. Living in a town with grass in it 8. Sidewalks that are not used as roads/parking spots 9. Headless, boneless, fish fillets 10....

Dear desk woman at the San Marco, Kindly don’t tell my roommate and I to “shut up” when we are behind the closed door of the room that we are paying for. Thanks.

One for the Books
I love finding grammatical errors in published works. Which is why I was so excited to have found one in Italiano in the book L’Isola del Tesoro (Treasure Island). Page 77: “Scendete con l capitano e il Cavaliere nella saletta e poi trovate una scusa per mandarmi a chiamare.” Corrected:  “Scendete con il capitano e il Cavaliere nella saletta e poi trovate una scusa per...

A Little More than I Bargained For
Last night, my dinner looked at me. We went out to a nice restaurant for the famous Brodetto. It’s a fish/seafood soup that is famous in Italy, but most specifically in Vasto (where I am). If you wiki it, it’ll bring up the link in Italian for Vasto Brodetto. Not wanting shellfish, because I only like fish, my friend and I ordered our minus the “frutti di mare”...

A Jaunt Around Abruzzo
Events of the piccola gita that we made around Abruzzo: 1. Got up obnoxiously early and loaded onto a bus that seats about 60 people. Rather unnecessary for our group of approximately 25. 2. Saw an awesome (pre-gotico, pre-classico) chiesa and totally displayed our knowledge about San Giovanni, frescos, and red and blu and oro. 3. Saw a beautiful vineyard and wondered where the hell was this...

Wiki of Monsummano Terme (in English) →
A few disclaimers: 1. I’m fairly sure that the estimated population count on the Wiki page is wrong. It seems way, way too alto. Also keep in mind that of all the people in Monsummano, about 98% of them are over age 75. 2. That picture at the top of the page? Yes, that’s the center of town. Note that the center of town is a church, not a hoppin’ piazza, cluster of shops, nice...

Reflecting on the Past... well, a few days in the...
Gone are we, from Monsummano. And it feels so good. Let’s take a look at the past and reflect on what we’ve been through. Remember that time….. We didn’t seep for a week due to constant excursions, readings, classes, and other homework? Madison’s chair broke in the middle of class? Balducci wore his suit for the entire trip around Pisa, in 100+ degree/85+ percent...
